| 304 STAINLESS STEEL ROUND TUBE |
Type 304 is in the "Austenitic" group (or chrome-nickel series) of stainless steels. It is not hardenable by heat-treatment and it is not magnetic. Hardness is accomplished by cold-working, which may create some magnetism). Tougher and more ductile than most ordinary steels, 304 (and other austenitic), also has excellent mechanical properties and weldability and good corrosion resistance.
AED stocks several sizes of round (seamless and welded) and square 304 stainless tubes. Meets ASTM A269, A249, A213, and others. We also stock 3 sizes of a 304 welded round tube with a rich polished finish, with the appearance of chrome; used for nerf bars and other applications. Designated in our size listing as "Super Buffed" (SB). These three sizes will be replaced by Type 201. Please scroll down for more information. |

Type 201 is also in the "Austenitic" group of stainless steels, although it is in a grouping separate from the 300 series of austenitic stainless:
chromium-nickel-manganese grade.
201 is comparable to chromium-nickel types of stainless, including the more common 304 and 301. Primary composition differences between the two types 201 Series has less nickel and more molybdenum content than 304. Some of the nickel is substituted
with manganese and nitrogen, which in effect can lower the overall cost. Additionally, the increased molybdenum adds excellent forming properties.
AED will be stocking three sizes of round 201 stainless tube, which meets ASTM A249. These are the only sizes we are planning to stock at this time. All are Super-buffed, with a chrome plated appearance.
Common applications for the 201 material include truck and boat rails, pool ladders, grab handles, appliances, mirror mounts, and now . . . Nerf Bars and Bumpers !!
