6AL-4V Titanium Round Bar

Titanium is an amazingly lightweight metal (approximately 60% of the density of steel) with outstanding corrosion resistance. Its unprecedented strength and high melting point (over 3,000° F), make it an obvious material choice for the aircraft and motorsports industries. In fact, over half the titanium produced is for aerospace alone!

The most popular grades of Titanium are 6AL-4V, also known as Titanium Grade 5; 3AL-2.5V, also known as Titanium Grade 9; and CP-2, also known as Commercially Pure Grade 2.

AED occasionally supplies 3AL-2.5V in tubular form, on a special order basis. “3-2”, also referred to as Grade 9, offers 20-50% higher strength than C.P. grades, but is more formable and weldable then Ti 6AI-4V. Additionally, it has higher Tensile Strength than the strongest unalloyed grade.

AED maintains inventory of titanium in 6AL-4V Round Bar and CP-2 Sheet. Other shapes (including round tube), grades, and dimensions available upon request.

6AL-4V, a very popular titanium alloy, is essentially composed of approximately 6% aluminum, 4% vanadium, with most of the remainder pure titanium (there are traces of several other elements). It has very high strength but relatively low ductility. It is weldable and can be precipitation hardened. 6AL-4V is typically supplied in the annealed condition, per MIL-T-9047 and ASTM B-348, Grade 5.

ASheet DiagramED stocks several sizes of 6AL-4V Round Bar, typically in 6 or 12 foot random lengths. Cut pieces are available. Other sizes of “6-4” are generally available on request, as well as sheet and plate. 6AL-4V sheet and plate meets MIL-T- 9046 AB-1 and AMS-4911. Minimums may apply.

3AL-2.5V, is a common grade of titanium, particularly in tubing. It is essentially composed of approximately 3% aluminum, 2.5% vanadium, with most of the remainder pure titanium (there are traces of several other elements). It’s light weight and high strength makes it a popular material choice in tubular form. Meets ASTM B337 Gr9, among others.

AED may periodically have inventory on one or two sizes of 3AL-2.5V Round Tube, but most “3-2” items are available by “special order only.” Minimums may apply.
